Natural Dyeing

Natural dyes can bring a rainbow of color to your next fabric project. Bright vibrant yellows from marigold to weld, to deep reds from madder and cochineal. I recently worked with Apoterra Skin Care to dye 300 organic cotton washcloths with Cutch, a deep reddish brown obtained from tree bark. I have also given old clothes new life with a vibrant over dye using natural dyes.

Arielle wrote and illustrated Cooking Color, finding a rainbow in the kitchen, a beginners guide to natural dyes using food and food waste. It is the perfect guide for the beginner dyer and seasoned dyers will find useful information contained in its pages as well. The book included step by step instructions for using food based materials to successfully dye cloth and make inks as well as nourishing recipes that leave you with food waste for dyeing.
